Aleto Bridge Collapses, New LG Boss Issues Ultimatum for Road Rebuilding
Sequel to the recent Local Government elections in Rivers State that saw the election of Hon. Obarilomate Alale Ollor as the Eleme Local Government Chairman-Elect, the Rivers State Governor His Excellency Chief Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike yesterday, 17th June 18, 2021, inaugurated the elected Chairman among the 22 chairmen thereby making the end of Barr. Philip Wuwu Okpariji Ph.D leadership at Eleme.
Coincidentally, the age long Aleto Bridge along the Trailer Park and Eleme Junction of the East-West road collapsed on the very day. On his return from Government House Port Harcourt after being inaugurated, the former Caretaker Chairman and reputed youth leader who currently enjoys the massive support of his people as a beacon of hope had a brief stopover at the failed sections of the bridge.
Hon. Ollor decried the continuous neglect of his people and assured that henceforth, it would never be tolerated. He then issued a 14 day ultimatum to the federal government of Nigeria to as a matter of urgency commence the rebuilding of the abandoned Eleme section of the East-West road face the occupation of the road by the Eleme people.
“I carry the mandate of my people and I’ll always say what they want me to say and I’ll stand anywhere to defend it,” the chairman was quoted at a reception to honour his election and inauguration. He promised to ensure the security of life and property in the area.
It could be recalled that recently, youths from Khana, Gokana and Tai local government areas had issued a similar threat to the government following the failed status of the road as the Niger Delta Ministry which is in charge of the road has perpetually reneged on her promise to rebuild the road despite the several site tours on the road by Sen. Akpabio, the incumbent minister of the ministry.
