Methodist Archbishop Visits the King of Eleme

As part of the valedictory process of the Archbishop of the Methodist Church of Nigeria covering the South-South and Port Harcourt Archdiocese, Most Reverend Dr. Sunday I. O. Agwu on 3rd November 2021 paid a visit to the Paramount Ruler of Eleme, HRM, Emere Dr. Philip Obele JP, Oneh Eh Eleme XI at his Eleraobari Palace, Aleto in Eleme LGA of Rivers State.

The Archbishop had visited the Oneh Eh Eleme XI to inform him that he would be stepping aside as the leader of the church as he proceeds on retirement on 1st December 2021. The Cleric thanked the traditional ruler and the people of Eleme for receiving the Methodist Church into Eleme land several decades ago and that his regards for the traditional institution had motivated him to visit the palace having embarked on an official visit to the church in the land. He then used the privilege of his visit to invite the traditional ruler to the programme billed for his retirement and appealed that more land be given to his church in order to expand their evangelical and social works.

Dr. Agwu had earlier described himself as an in-law to Eleme people hence Eleme was his second home hence, visiting the Oneh Eh Eleme XI to pay his homage was a homecoming.

In his response, HRM Emere Philip Osaro Obele, Oneh Eh Eleme XI commended the reverend gentleman and his entourage for honouring him and the people of Eleme and for approving the Method Church, Aleto a circuit status.

Highlights of the brief ceremony were the exchange of gifts and prayers for the prosperity of the body of Christ and the people of Eleme Mr. Maxwell Iyayi, a palace official has said.
