Nigerians condemn killing of dolphin by fishermen in Rivers State

Scores of Nigerians responded with condemnation to a post on Saturday on Facebook by Iwor Amamino, a fisherman from Oyorokoto, Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State announcing a catch of a dolphin.

Most of the responders said dolphin is a friendly fish that often helped stranded fishermen and sailors to safety and should not be killed by fishermen.

Not long ago a community of butchers descended on a stranded whale somewhere in Bayelsa State and cut it to its bones and went home with its meat.

Dolphins are said to be protected by international conventions.
